Willamette River Fishing
The Willamette River is definately one of my favorite rivers. It is truely amazing as it offers threecities (Portland, Salem and Eugene) Salmon and steelhead as well assturgeon opportunites for the Portland area. The Willamette is famous for it's Spring Chinook Salmon returns, but also see's a very nice 
summer steelhead run and hosts a super winter sturgeon fishery.
The first Willamette River Spring Chinook Salmon is usually caught somewhere around the third to fourth week of January. From there angling pressure increases first week of April, people expect to catch fish. I start guiding for Willamette River Spring Chinook in March and run trips into May. I fish primarily in the Oregon City area below the Oregon City Falls, but venture as low as the Lake Oswego area about 5 miles down river. Willamette River sturgeon fishing provides anglers with decent to excellent fishing from January through May. Many people feel that the
high water and abundant food created during these periods draw sturgeon from the Columbia River into the waters of the Willamette. I spend most of my time between the town of Milwaukie and Portland itself. This 10 mile section of river provides me and my clients with all the holes necessary for good winter sturgeon fishing.
